Janet White, M.A.

Janet WhiteAs a career counselor and resume writer, I have assisted hundreds of people in developing fulfilling career lives, particularly persons in mid-life career transition, young adults clarifying or rethinking their initial career choice, and creative people seeking to develop a career life that engages their creativity.

Career questions I am particularly strong at addressing include:

  • Should I find a different job in this field or change careers altogether?
  • I know I am capable of more challenging work, but what is it?

  • I am a creative person but how can I make a living from it?
  • I have many career ideas; how do I choose just one?

  • I loved my major in college but what can I do with it?
  • I chose the wrong major in college – now what do I do?

  • How do I present my unusual career/job situation on my resume?
  • I took a break from my career; how do I rejoin the workforce and what type of work shall I do?

Besides providing career counseling in the traditional form, I also utilize an alternative approach that is very creative and action-oriented in identifying and realizing one’s goals. Those who find it especially helpful are entrepreneurs, creative types, and others seeking a unique way of looking at their career lives. Some of their comments: "My career is more aligned with who I really am," and “I’m now attuned to my creative side and work that will help me express it."

A successful career provides for not only on-the-job satisfaction, but also feeds one’s life outside of work, and my counseling style springs from this viewpoint. Whether the outcome is a major career change, a revived job search, or greater work-life balance, I am delighted when my clients report being more fulfilled as a result of our working together. As one person expressed, “Before we met, I was on the verge of giving up, but with your help I now have renewed self confidence, motivation, and a clear career goal.“
