Terry Karp, M.A.
Background
I am one of the founding partners of the Bay Area Career Center (BACC) and have provided career development services to both individuals and organizations for over 10 years. I see myself as a career guide whose work focuses on assisting people with discovering and creating a meaningful work life. I am also a career consultant for UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business MBA students and alumni and the approved Bay Area career consultant for Columbia University’s MBA school alumni. From my outplacement consulting work (helping people who have been laid off) for the IMPACT Group, I have developed strong expertise helping people with the emotional and strategic issues associated with the job search. I am the co-author of “ValueSearch”, a values clarification assessment, have co-authored a chapter on values in the award winning book, New Directions in Career Planning and the Workplace (Davies-Black 2000), and am mentioned in the publication Changing Careers for Dummies 2001.
Areas of Expertise
My greatest satisfaction in my work comes from creating a plan for each individual client. In our first session, we will review your background, address your most immediate concerns, and create a plan. Many times, career transitions feel overwhelming. I can break the process down to manageable steps and take the mystery out of the process. If you are exploring making a transition to a new career or industry, I can help you identify and target new career options. If you are engaged in job search, together, we can develop a focused job search plan and ensure the time spent is productive and effective. I can also help with finding the “hidden” job market, focused interview training, resume writing, and productive use of the Internet. I have received the following statements from my clients to express their appreciation:
“I am deeply grateful to Terry because I was lost and afraid and she helped me take things step by step and really helped me to focus in on what it was I really wanted.”
“I really appreciated Terry’s sincerity, patience and understanding; her ability to put into words what I could only ramble on about in the early stages of my transition; giving me suggestions/direction and/or a new perspective; being supportive and upbeat; letting me proceed at my own pace but again making sure I had my game plan; target dates set, etc.”
Education
My Bachelor’s degree is in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and I received my Master’s Degree in Career Development from John F. Kennedy University.
